India is witnessing tremendous growth in infrastructure and construction sector. The construction industry in India is one of the largest economic activities and is growing rapidly. As the sector is growing rapidly, preserving the environment poses a host of challenges. The country generates 150 million tonnes per year of construction and demolition (C&D) waste. This landfill leads to land, air and water pollution which affects the health and well-being of people in the surroundings and also contributes to global warming and climate change. There is an imminent need for addressing the issues related to waste generation and their landfill.
